To follow up on yesterday's report, here are the most recent and significant developments in the ongoing saga at OpenAI, including unverified updates from social media platforms
Ilya Sutskever initially supported Altman's departure, but later reversed his stance to back Altman.
In seeking a new CEO, OpenAI approached Alexandr Wang (Scale AI) and Nat Friedman (GitHub), but both declined the offer.
Emmett Shear was then appointed as CEO, despite not being the first choice.
Faced with leadership changes, over 745 of 770 OpenAI employees threatened to join Microsoft unless the entire board resigned.
Responding to this, Microsoft announced its willingness to offer positions to all OpenAI employees.
OpenAI's board proposed a merger with Anthropic, a competitor, but the offer was rejected.
As the Microsoft deal remained unfinalized, Sam Altman made efforts to return as OpenAI CEO, leaving the organization's future leadership and partnership with Microsoft in a state of flux.
BREAKING: Over the weekend, OpenAI's board approached Dario Amodei, the CEO of its top startup rival, about a potential merger.
The approach was part of an effort by OpenAI to persuade Amodei to replace Altman as CEO.
